BlackGold Volleyball FAQs
What is club volleyball?
Club volleyball is an opportunity for youth athletes throughout the province to participate in volleyball practices and competition from November to May. Club teams offer programming for athletes 12-18 years of age.
How long is the club volleyball season?
Depending on your level, our club teams begin training right after the teams are formed. The season ends for 13U and 14U teams after Provincials in April and for the older teams, after Nationals in May. Therefore, with the tryout period included, the season can be up to 26 weeks.
How much does it cost to play club volleyball?
Like all competitive sports Club volleyball comes with a cost, At BGV we include all sanctioned tournament fee’s, AVA fees, gym time, coaching and coaching development fees with our season fees. you can expect to pay about $1050 at 13U and $1350 plus per season from 14U on. The significant jump at 14U is due to more sanctioned tournaments and more practice time. BGV does everything in its power to keep these fees as low as possible and offers optional payment plans to offset the upfront cost.
Are there additional fees/costs?
Additional fees depend on the individual teams, Included in your team fees are “Sanctioned” tournaments, regular practices and some additional camps or training. Depending on the team and the coaches, additional fees will vary. These additional fees are usually made up of extra tournament costs, extra gym time and extra training. All travel and accommodation expenses for out of town tournaments are the responsibility of the player or family.
Is there fundraising available?
BGV does not offer group or individual fundraising options. Should a team or individual player desire to do fundraising it is entirely up to them.
Can I play another sport as well as volleyball?
Many players are able to play different sports (hockey, soccer, ringette, dance, cheer etc.) however there are things to consider when choosing to play multiple sports. These include schedule conflicts, with both practices and tournaments, dedication to sport and commitment to your team. Before choosing to join multiple sports, we recommend getting as much information about tournaments and practices from both teams to ensure conflict is minimized and development is maximized.
Should I try out for multiple clubs?
Only you can decide if trying out for multiple clubs is right for you. Do your research! If multiple clubs meet your personal criteria (philosophy, tournaments, cost, etc.) then you may want to try out for multiple so you can decide which club is really the best fit. If you decide to try out for multiple clubs, you may want to limit the number to 2-3. Tryouts can be intense (both physically and mentally) and you only have so much energy to go around. If you spread yourself too thin you may end up performing more poorly than if you had limited yourself.
If you have never played club volleyball before, trying out for multiple clubs can be a wise strategy. It will give you first hand experience with how each club operates, and could potentially provide backup options in the event that your preferred club does not make you a team offer.
